Otto uses Google user data only after the user explicitly connects their Gmail account and requests bill detection. Otto uses Gmail read-only access to scan recent emails and identify bill-related messages. Otto may extract limited bill information such as provider or company name, amount, due date, category, source email metadata, and payment link when available. This information is stored as limited extracted bill records and displayed only inside the user's private Otto dashboard to help the user organize and manage bills. Otto does not use Google user data for advertising, resale, credit scoring, profiling, or unrelated analytics. Otto does not sell Google user data.
Otto does not sell Google user data and does not share Google user data for advertising, marketing, credit scoring, resale, or unrelated analytics. Otto may share, transfer, or disclose limited Google user data only in the following circumstances: 1. Service providers and infrastructure vendors Otto may process Google user data through trusted service providers that help operate the application, such as hosting, database, authentication, application infrastructure, monitoring, and secure backend processing providers. These providers are only allowed to process the data as necessary to provide services to Otto and are not allowed to use it for their own purposes. 2. AI and automation service providers used for bill extraction When a user asks Otto to scan their email for bills, Otto may process bill-related email content and metadata through automated extraction systems or AI service providers solely to identify bills and extract limited bill details such as provider name, amount, due date, category, source email metadata, and payment link when available. This data is not used to train generalized AI models for advertising or unrelated purposes. 3. Legal compliance and safety Otto may disclose Google user data if required by law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request, or when necessary to protect the rights, safety, or security of Otto, its users, or the public. 4. User-directed actions Otto may use or disclose Google user data when the user explicitly requests or directs an action inside the app, such as connecting Gmail, scanning emails for bills, displaying detected bills, or initiating a payment-related workflow. Otto does not allow employees, contractors, or third parties to access Google user data except as necessary to operate, secure, troubleshoot, or support the user-requested features described in this policy.
Otto requests the minimum Gmail permission required for its functionality: https://www.googleapis.com/auth/gmail.readonly. Otto does not request permissions to send, delete, modify, archive, move, or compose emails. Otto cannot send emails from the user's account and cannot change the contents of the mailbox.
Otto's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Otto protects user data using HTTPS, authenticated access, user-based permissions, backend authorization checks, and secure storage of secrets. Bill records are associated with the authenticated user and are not visible to other users. Sensitive credentials and API keys are stored as secure environment variables or secrets and are not hardcoded in the application code.
Otto retains extracted bill records and related Google-derived metadata for as long as the user maintains an Otto account or until the user requests deletion. Users may disconnect Otto's Gmail access at any time from their Google Account permissions. If a user requests deletion of their account or Google-derived bill data, Otto will delete the associated bill records and related Google-derived metadata within a reasonable period, unless retention is required by law.
Users can revoke Otto's access to Gmail at any time through their Google Account security settings: Google Account → Security → Third-party apps & services. Users can also contact Otto to request deletion of their account or Google-derived data.
